C.F. Goldblatt
A native son of Malibu, California, at age six C.F. speared his first fish. At age 11 he signed onto the fishing vessel -Aquarius- to learn the ways of a deckhand. After the death of his father at 12, he lied about his age and joined an offshore tuna fleet in San Diego where he worked 20 hours a day, and cut his teeth as a deckhand- then captain. At 13-years-old he bought his first boat and did laps around Channel Islands.
C.F.’s bond with the sea has only grown more intense over time. He holds a Bachelor of Science from Humboldt State University in Fisheries and Business. As a global seafood and exotic seashell trader, he pioneered the sustainable seafood movement. C.F. has worked and traded goods in over 50 nations and he has cut bread with the salt of the earth- Prime Ministers, Presidents and Billionaires alike.
In 2003, C.F. sunk at sea violently. He and five friends were obliterated by a fuel barge under tow- he managed to save all aboard but suffered from PTSD and turned to writing to share his experiences and help rebuild a damaged relationship with the sea.
Adding insult to injury, C.F. saw his German-born wife deported. They lived in Panama for years while they fought the good fight for their eventual return.
Currently residing in Santa Barbara, C.F. continues to free-dive, spearfish and travel the globe. He is considered a pioneer and an ocean futurist. His current endeavor focuses on making artificial reefs to enhance nearshore ecosystems and improve fisheries for the benefit of locals and food security. C.F. holds a seat at the United Nations International Seabed Authority where he is actively involved in shaping mankind’s long-term relationship with the sea and the life within it.
In his writing, C.F. is known for raising hard questions against the large, global environmental complex. He feels duty bound to question large, un-elected power structures no matter how noble their stated goal may be. C.F. believes that environmental groups should deliver the goods and actually make our plant healthier but do so while preserving the rights and freedoms of mankind.
